"Pray if you want to talk to Jesus. Text if you want to meet him."

27 October 2009

Susan C.R. wrote on FB:

"So Mom, is ignorance bliss, or does the truth set you free?" Lia, age 12. Help, anyone?

I commented:
Ignorance isn't really bliss, and it isn't much fun either. And truth doesn't really set you free. And everything will not necessarily be ok in the end, and there really are endings. Also Jesus said cool things but never said it would be easy or worth it. Platitudes to inspire gratitude. Hope that helps. :|

H.G. Wells said, "Every time I see an adult on a bicycle, I no longer despair for the future of the human race."

Q is for Quote, for S's iPod.

Wednesday was S's 17th birthday! Wow oh Wow. She is so marvelous! Too marvelous for words, so glamorous, so amorous! -- I should write a song about her! :)

On Monday J and I went though all sorts of machinations to get to SLC to buy an iPod for her. (If you turn in an old iPod, at the Apple Store, even a yellow one that "suffered water damage" (Hmmm, was it the washer/dryer treatment by an 11 year old?), they give you a 10% discount on a new one.) Here is what we found:

Bummer. Closed for REMODELING?! It will reopen May 29th.

Now we are going to order one online, where we can have it engraved for free! Free! (Ha.)
Trying to find the right short quote...

G is for GLASBERGEN.

This made C laugh. I grinned. Thanks Glasbergen!

The studio is so lovely, spare and workable! Still have more papers to go through. Took the entire pile(s) to the dining room then paid a young friend to make it neat and tidy. I'll get to it after it ages for a while, and after the dates expire.

Quote I found, in the mess, for a plate:
One must think like a hero to behave like a merely decent human being.

My children will say, "What does that Even mean Mom?!" Ugh.

L is for Look, through the window.

For Withers it’s all quite simple. He says, "I write and sing about whatever I am able to understand and feel. I feel that it is healthier to look out at the world through a window than through a mirror. Otherwise, all you see is yourself and whatever is behind you." For Withers it’s all quite simple. P is for Practice

P is for Practice. As in: Practice doesn't make perfect. Perfect practice makes perfect.

Karl's former cello teacher Dorothy Olsen taught us that. It sounds discouraging but it is common sence, which is very uncommon when it comes to children practicing their instruments.

Another addage: If its worth doing at all, it is worth doing right.
