Bizarro app -- my second review.

Dan Piraro is a Genius! I have loved his work for years and years and am so happy to have this on my iPhone. For budget reasons I thought of switching to a blase phone ... then I remembered the beloved Bizarro app. We would be sad to live without it; I read daily it with my children. The iPhone is a perfect forum for a single panel cartoon. The archive is great to flip through. While donating blood I was reading Bizarro on my iPhone and laughing; the entire process took 4.5 minutes. Actually, I would pay extra for a deeper archive.

Switching Newspapers

I've disliked the Deseret News for sometime (their point of view(extremely conservative), the shallow articles, the terrible "collage" art, their HORRIFIC food section ...) then they dropped 2 of our favorite comics, Lio and F-Minus. Today I am switching to The Salt Lake Tribune. I'm going to read by favorite, Bizarro via the my iPhone ap.


Here is a comment I left, via FB regarding another paper dropping F-minus for Justin, about a looser who lives at home with his spineless parents. Now, that is original and funny.


You might not receive a million letters/comments from readers but I bet the subscriptions continue to drop. Newspapers need more content, and BETTER content. Justin isn't quirky or funny. F-minus is both, and popular.

L is for Lio by Mark Tatulli

Since the dorky (very) Deseret News has taken Lio out N doesn't even read the funnies anymore. He used to get up and RUN outside to get the paper ... I wrote to the section editor (2x) but no reply. Although the images are glum and odd there is an upbeat quality to the cartoon. We are really missing it. Dan Piraro (Bizarro creator and all around nice genius guy) sent me to the Washington Post to read it online. Sigh. Back to/on the computer again. It is a wonder we don't all have chair sores on our bums, like oozing bed sores you'd see in a negligent convalescent home.

Although we read other bits of the paper, that is all that is now left, now that all the articles are so short. I subscribe to the Deseret News for one reason: the Funny Pages.

All my children are very sad that Leo has been replaced by the very unfunny Fort Knox. Deflocked and Cul de Sac are drippy and unfunny as well, and, if possible, getting worse.

I told my 9 year old son, who is deaf and related to Leo, that I would write to you for him, but I am sad too. Please don't skeletonize the funny pages.

M is for Missing ... K & J!

K is coming home on Tuesday night! Wa-hooo! I haven't laughed once, not once! since he has been at camp! Boo hoo hoo. Well, maybe once... I miss his silliness, having his friends around, his singing, talking about the news with him and the cello! He broke his right middle finger at camp, not sure how that will affect his cello-ing. His hand is taped up like a sharp shooter.

Tonight N & M were singing a song, well, 2 songs, not at all similar to each other though sung at the same time ... for J! They miss him the Most they say. He is both of their [?] best friend and their favorite brother. I can write this because I know that tomorrow they will say that K is their favorite ... what a fickle family of favorites. I miss his sweetness, his spontaneous kisses, his imagination and believe it or not his whistling! I also miss reading to him.

We've saved a few weeks worth of the funny pages for them both to fight over!

I don't miss the extra laundry, which I am getting 100% caught up on -- now that I've rinsed my last tie dye ever. School starts Wednesday for J! (C & I are really happy for him. The new school will be fantastic!) I'll just drop J & N off and take K & J's bags from camp directly to the Soap Box Laundromat and let Joyce work her magic -- then I'll come home and incinerate the boys' shoes. :P

House Update: My goal was to have the house "landed" before school starts. Every room.

GARAGE: Getting more and more there. H Bike, huge fan, wire equipt., tie dye materials, clay etc. now have a place to call their own. The entire space is now overrun with school supplies & donations, and of course the tub/misc. stuff to sell. Tie dye and clay are neat and tidy and put away. Still need to move and sell or donate the tub, then I can park INSIDE the garage. Huge sofa-holding-cardboard boxes are gone. Donation stuff needs to go.

DINING ROOM: Almost useable for working in. Will have Project party to celebrate the landed room. Sewing projects are in boxes, fabric is folded and tidy, do-dads are in boxes. To mend pile needs attention and to be done, at night.

LAUNDRY ROOM: So close! The floor is visible (a flood helped). Must iron all the wadded up stuff and fabric for quilt edges. Moved it into the family room, which violates a new rule: All laundry stays in Laundry Room -- didn't want to get dye on it as I rinsed out the tie dye. Amazing amount of clothes, table cloths, towels, getting rid of lots of it actually.

MASTER BEDROOM: Perfection. Simple. Empty. Clean.

ENTRY WAY: Clean. Counter useable for the "don't forget as you go out the door" spot! L------ville is up and looks fun, complete with new architecture, touched up buildings, stars and N's new fort. :)

Garfield is finally funny.

Garfield is taken out of the strip and Jim--Jon-- looks like the nut-job he is. Here is the quote,

Check this out. I wish I could figure out how to put it on this blog. Any ideas? I'm not really a big fan of television, or movies... wish I was, but I can't sit still that long (usually). This is just about my speed. Completely perfect at the gym on my spiffy iPod -- worth having the screen.

So sad that Mr. Mark Pett is closing his studio door to the Lucky Cow comic strip. Snarky, sadly all-American, well drawn, funny funny.
