H mouths off at the HuffPost

Ouch!
www.huffingtonpost.com
Well, this is unfortunate. It appears that Huffington Post's newest "Hottest Freshman," Representative Kristi Noem (R-SD), is not elated by the accolade.

    • H: I"m sick of female politicians being referred to as "hot." I'm no fan of Palin but a "MILF?" With Noem, once again a woman's value is reduced to her sexuality.
    • HuffPost Style It has nothing to do with being female. The last "Hottest Freshman" was Rep. Aaron Schock, a man.
    • H: You can say it has nothing to do with being female but I think it is different for a female. When a man is called "hot" it is a light joke, a badge of sorts. When a woman, in power, is referred to as "hot" it is demeaning of her intelligence and accomplishments, sometimes even an powerless threat.

Perhaps this is simply my POV, but girls and women are expected to be everything these days and often only accepted for one thing.

A FB post from H to STurley

re: General Conference & BKPacker's remarks re: same-sex marriage.

 I really do Love conference. In many ways it is the best that the church offers. B.K. Packer, G. Von Harrison, McConkie and even E.T. Benson's views of/approach to the Gospel, this life, other people, and maybe even JC, differ from mine. {{No, I have no idea how I got stuck in Utah Co.--there are some mighty cool people here though.}}

N is for NO MO FB app on my phone.

H: Deleting the FB app off my phone. FB will still be on the 'puter, but since I loathe sitting in front of that thing, I'll be seeing a lot less FB and a lot less of the chicken whisper & other more snarky voices. Farewell.

    • M: Why not just pare down your friends list to those that really are and tighten up your settings so that only those friends can see/post. It's what I do.
      Monday at 12:20pm
    • H: Funny you wrote that Mickey. That is what my daughter did and believe it or not she has gotten some unwelcome grief for it. That is the direction I'm heading in though. (I'm glad I'm on your list!)
      Monday at 12:25pm
    • M: No problem with you on the list... What kind of unwelcome grief? If someone can't get it through their head that they were removed from your friends list because of the way they acted or things they said then they need to accept the responsibility of changing their behavior and if they don't get it then point it out to them. So far I have only had one person give me grief for cutting them off my friends list and I told them exactly why.

21 July 2010

I want and need sleep but there are these kids ... and then visitors and laundry to be forgotten about and plans to be made and messes, that I made and others that others made, to be cleaned up. Will I ever be caught up and able to do the work I want to do?

I'm bidding Facebook farewell. If someone wants to get a hold of me they can. FB will find me.

Be here, and happy, now.

Why are people posting that they are sad? I've been told (a lot) recently that my life should a shambles, sheer dismay and woe; but I don't see it. I honestly feel that I need a gratitude mop to sop up all the goodness and sweets. If you are really, truly sad may I suggest buying a cruiser bike and ride it until it groans under you and you feel happy as you fly around in the sunshine? Try to be grateful for Your problems, you really don't want anyone else's.

Wow. Geez. I hadn't heard that you broke BOTH of your legs! ~ That is THE project that I say I'm going to do when I break both my legs... however, modern medicine wouldn't allow that. C had his hip replaced and was walking within days. So, it's best to do it w/o added drama and pain. I'm VERY impressed.

RBC: Yes, I'm impressing myself. Be watching for random pics popping up on FB.

Why are YOU up? I'm working on pictures.
H:
That will be cool. I'm Easter Bunny-ing. I actually have everything very organized but got distracted while trying to find a podcast/audio book to listen to while filling baskets and making fun tags. S(17) didn't come home until midnight. I had to wait ... she is hard to surprise. Although I did get her on the 1st with the fake grapes in the ziplock bag at lunch. :)

C (an erstwhile curmudgeon) was out of town for April Fools' Day ... I had Lots of fun. You can trust me, really. :]
The cottage cheese in the milk was a good trick. They didn't "get" it until the next morning. I'm still laughing about it. They are too. Once one of them poured the lumpy milk on their cereal, checked the smell, checked the expiration date, and yelled at me, they just waited for the next kid to. No one told anyone. The timing of breakfast/after school snack was perfect. Very funny.

Mr. Rogers, the Beloved and Missed.

--> FACEBOOK CONVERSATION <--

ML: I am looking OH SO ATTRACTIVE with tissues stuffed up my nostrils. Gotta love spring colds/allergies/whatever it is.

Hailey Meyer Liechty
H: Ha! I was just wondering, sadly (C has a fire going), if I could slither up the stairs unnoticed. My puffy eyes, runny nose and blotchy skin must look so lovely. I've been crying -- reading about Mr. Rogers! Meanwhile, my kitten allergies have kicked in. I HAD to teach Miss M how to hold the sweet, furry, purring kitty! For a long time ... As Mr. Rogers would say to You, "I love you just the way you are!" -- I say it too M!

ML: Well aren't you just sweet (as are the furry, purring kitties). But why have you been crying over Mr. Rogers?
Hailey Meyer Liechty
H: Oh, I LOVE Mr. Rogers! I've been looking for something for a very special young man's 15th (!) birthday next Friday ...

The more I read about Mr. Rogers the more I admire him. He was a man of complete integrity & humility, & unlike so many famous men, he was consistent & true his entire life. He cared passionately for children & what is Best for their positive growth; this is so sorely lacking in 2010. If K would have Mr. Rogers as a role model & not men with tricked out names like: Tiger, Jay-z or Jesse James, if he is 9/10ths like Mr. Rogers, I will die a happy mother.

When Mr. Rogers passed away K & I cried together.

I'm actually surprised at how strongly I feel for him. Just read that he showed up in Eddie Murphy's dressing room at Saturday Night Live when EM was making fun of Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood (with drug addicts etc.). When EM saw him, naturally he swore [great] and, naturally, Mr. Rogers hugged him.

I see a lot of Christ's example in him, the humility, intelligence, deep spirituality & love of children.

(Hey, thanks for a blog post here!)

To Ingrid re: English only.

H wrote at 10:51pm on February 21st, 2010
My father and his tribe (the lucky ones) immigrated to America just as WWII started. For them, their 1st priority was to learn English. When immigrants learn English they do so much better than if they isolate themselves in their community. I hate the narrow attitude of "English only" --believe it or not, in a design co. that specialized in TRANSLATION, a guy told us that-- but one language should be strongly encouraged for the strength of the country and the individuals. And how 'bout those crazy Americans that go to Germany and learn their language!? You are my hero, btw.

Awww thanks.

Not Facebook

There are many things that aren't posted on FB. This is a good thing. Feeling depressed at seeing various profile pics is one.

Can't post about it on a blog either. Not sure I admire people who are able to, though it is delightful that they can readily bare their souls and even make money doing it.

Darling, do you mean that I concede something to you, like a victor's medal, made out of metal? Or am I conceited? As in stuck-up, with the fact that I've done good with you, and that your Pop and I are just so cool? Just saying...

Hi! Lori!
When I saw your name requesting my friendship I did a double take! I am your new biggest fan. I went to your shows' opening, after studying the Philips Gallery site, and oogglleedd? ogled -- looked, loved and drooled a bit. Wow. Your work is fantastic, the show was brilliant. Maybe I should stop before fresh drool and exuberance kills my computer. Cornucopias, yellows and blue skies, Hailey

"So Mom, is ignorance bliss, or does the truth set you free?" Lia, age 12. Help, anyone?

I commented:
Ignorance isn't really bliss, and it isn't much fun either. And truth doesn't really set you free. And everything will not necessarily be ok in the end, and there really are endings. Also Jesus said cool things but never said it would be easy or worth it. Platitudes to inspire gratitude. Hope that helps. :|

"Dear friends of facebook, i have a serious announcement to make. i am now a republican and a devout fan of byu. i dont know what i was thinking all that time. thank you, Hailey"

This made me laugh! AND! Zina commented?! My funny funny children posted that for me. [I'm pleased that the Evans/Meyer genes have been well nurtured!] Here is the boring truth: I am NOT Republican (the party of bush, beck & limbaugh, deception & deficits) and I am not a fan of BYU (for personal, not ideological reasons) , though I am an alumni and am glad many folks around here like the place.
