Wow. Geez. I hadn't heard that you broke BOTH of your legs! ~ That is THE project that I say I'm going to do when I break both my legs... however, modern medicine wouldn't allow that. C had his hip replaced and was walking within days. So, it's best to do it w/o added drama and pain. I'm VERY impressed.

That will be cool. I'm Easter Bunny-ing. I actually have everything very organized but got distracted while trying to find a podcast/audio book to listen to while filling baskets and making fun tags. S(17) didn't come home until midnight. I had to wait ... she is hard to surprise. Although I did get her on the 1st with the fake grapes in the ziplock bag at lunch. :)

C (an erstwhile curmudgeon) was out of town for April Fools' Day ... I had Lots of fun. You can trust me, really. :]

The cottage cheese in the milk was a good trick. They didn't "get" it until the next morning. I'm still laughing about it. They are too. Once one of them poured the lumpy milk on their cereal, checked the smell, checked the expiration date, and yelled at me, they just waited for the next kid to. No one told anyone. The timing of breakfast/after school snack was perfect. Very funny.

L is for Lio by Mark Tatulli

Since the dorky (very) Deseret News has taken Lio out N doesn't even read the funnies anymore. He used to get up and RUN outside to get the paper ... I wrote to the section editor (2x) but no reply. Although the images are glum and odd there is an upbeat quality to the cartoon. We are really missing it. Dan Piraro (Bizarro creator and all around nice genius guy) sent me to the Washington Post to read it online. Sigh. Back to/on the computer again. It is a wonder we don't all have chair sores on our bums, like oozing bed sores you'd see in a negligent convalescent home.

[I'm pleased that the Evans/Meyer genes have been well nurtured!] Here is the boring truth: I am NOT Republican (the party of bush, beck & limbaugh, deception & deficits) and I am not a fan of BYU (for personal, not ideological reasons) , though I am an alumni and am glad many folks around here like the place.

Bunny Duet

N is for Nice I-spy! & N's unusual baptism pic.

Happy happy boy. I finished the top of N's quilt. He loves it and I am very happy that I made it. I started with S's and now have one to go. It is cut and splayed out on the dining room floor. A bout of insomnia will get it DONE. I don't know what I will create in the future but I don't know if my children will ever love anything so much as these quilts, for them. Each child takes pride in each square, choice, color, combination, pocket, stitch. When they are all finished, backed and bound I hope to enter the stack of 5 as ONE -- a tangible manifestation of my neurosis, I mean Love of creativity and SKJN&M.
I'm making a crazy quilt top for S to take to DECA Nationals and maybe a crazy quilt of sorts for Ginger.


This is funny. Last October at N's baptism, the primary president loaded up the Polaroid (remember those?) and fired off a shot. This was the first picture on the role! (Dos Equis is a brand of beer, in case you don't know.) "Stay thirsty" isn't a bad theme for a baptism talk... change the meaning a bit to suit a sweet 8 year old though!

Recently I received a plea from my pal Dan Pirarro about being dropped from the Dallas Morning News. He was asking loyal fans to write and ask for Bizarro to be reinstated.

As Al Capone might say, "Done."

Here is what I wrote. I also sent it to the Deseret News. Just a note, I wrote this quickly which surprised me since letter writing as been a bit of a chore. Like some of the results but the process? Arduous. Perhaps practice has helped...

We also enjoy the Mormon Times section, especially Orson Scott Card's articles. I do wish that many other articles were longer, more detailed. Your online edition is good as well, but the funnies? Well,they need to be the "funny pages!" The kids just can't read them on line while in the car [or on the lou].

Letter to The Writer's Almanac

I have enjoyed the Writer's Almanac for as long as I could-have. While it was on KBYU I set my alarm to it. Although I was awake I didn't want to miss it. When it was off the local public radio stations for years I wrote to them on your behalf, mine too! Now I enjoy the daily email and listen to the podcasts when I can. Thank you for your great work.

Here's the deal: CHEER UP. It seems that so many of the poems and histories recently chosen are glum. Right now, I am awake contemplating my children's lives... The email from my deaf son's 2nd grade teacher. My beautiful 16 year old. Schedules. Republican (not really "conservative") neighbors and relatives telling me, loudly, what they think about things I quietly disagree with. My house is a mess. The hazelnut birthday cake didn't turn out as planned. There is personal and National debt. And then there is Sarah Hot-babe Palin, mean girl, un-qualified VP?, train-wreck?

Please, oh please, help me out by just throwing out a few funny poems, something light-hearted, now and then. I'm probably not alone in my stress and woe and need for humor. Probably need a few extra doses right now.

Yeah well, pretty much everything in life should be funny. Some people I've met don't agree with that, and we don't get a long. Funny is thoughtful with the bonus smile attached. There are so many things in this world that can't be made funny we've go to dig deep when we find a good vein of funny ore.

I need more humor, a lot more and a lot of it everywhere. That is where Fred comes in.
Until I went to their site I didn't realize how many of their products we have and LOVE. We have the "pick your nose" cups and the inanimate stickers. This house of order NEEDs the "batter finger", maybe a few to stave off fights!

TP is for Toilet Poem...

C travels quite a bit and speaks Mandarin Chinese. One of his design friends in China has a poem, in Chinese, on his website. It is pretty much the main thing you see when you go to his site. C told him that message might be completely true, and yet, somehow, um... well, it just doesn't translate well. See for your self. C is working on his own Ode de Toilet, so to speak.
