HML
Darling, do you mean that I concede something to you, like a victor's medal, made out of metal? Or am I conceited? As in stuck-up, with the fact that I've done good with you, and that your Pop and I are just so cool? Just saying...

FB is for Forget'bout Bedtime.

Sorry to read you won't be there...but a mum of six (??is this right??) needs her R&R. Enjoy!

Thanks for the info. Cool that you've kept up with Hamlin kin. I only have five... you sound like my dad, he always says "How many do you have now? Ten?"

Melissa October 22 at 8:55pm
I was on the Alumnae Board for a couple years....very fun actually. Five--I am so jealous!

Do you live in SF?

Growing up I knew a lot of older women who had 1 or 2 children and told me they regretted they didn't have more. That left an impression on me. The only person I knew with more than 3 was Paula Mc. who I thought was a bone fide automaton nut. 5 is often more work than I realized it would be, especially since I'm kinda a lazy loner. (Lazy when it comes to housework. It depresses me.) Things are clearing out though, this is a pivotal year. S (oldest, 17) is a senior in HS and M (youngest, 5) is in kindergarten. They are cool, sweet kids. My husband is one of 10-12 (2 died at birth). He would have been fine with 2. His parents ARE nutters and didn't ever master the parenting thing. He says they followed the squid model, very "hands" off. He wants to be a penguin.

S is for Surprise Shoe Sale!

This is an email I wrote to my Mum. Sometimes the clearest journaling is in the form of a letter, or nowadays an email.
I was just trying to head up to bed when I saw your emails. Looks like  your computer up and running again? FYI: Try to donate your monitor. They have yicky stuff in them that doesn't belong in the landfill.

I'm sorry that we won't see you this week. Soon though. :) Did you get stuck in the snarled traffic today? (I read about it on SFGATE.com) It has only been raining a little throughout the day here.

Dad sounded good the last few times I spoke with him. I wish he'd hurry and do the test his Dr. suggests. D was over tonight and said that he is not having a test tomorrow but Monday. I can be in SF anytime. Things are so much smoother this year than the last few. Just tell me when and I'll be there.

Made Mid's Macaroni & Cheese yesterday and invited DFM. He couldn't make it so I said I'd have some for him ... I didn't realize that the ENTIRE thing had been eaten before he even got here. I owe him. It was really great. I made it with aged gouda and other misc. cheeses in the fridge.

Surprise shoe sale story: Yesterday, Columbus Day, C didn't have to work. He came with me to choose the kid's pics at Fotogenix, (they will be ready next week!) and then we had some time before we needed to pick up the children. He remembered that I needed some new dress shoes so he suggested that we go look for some. (Last Friday we went to a black tie event and my shoes were rather blasé.) I suggested Nordstrom.

When we reached the shoe department we saw these really cute +$95 shoes. Dang. We went to the sale rack and found some really cool, very funky, cute Converse shoes, 1/2 off! Stella loves Converse, I like them too. They had them in Pink and Gray--was glad to get them. (If she finishes her school work ON TIME and WELL DONE she will get a pair. When she saw them on me her jaw dropped. She loves them!) (I also needed some cute everyday NON-flipflops, which I have been wearing all summer and have really hurt my feet.) I saw one very cute dress shoe on the sale rack but it was size 10.5. I asked if by chance they had it in 8.5. The nice lady went to look, and while she did C said, "I really like those first shoes we saw." I said, "Me too!" She came back with 2 boxes and said that they were available and now ALL the sizes were on sale, they just hadn't been marked down yet. When we opened the boxes we realized that they were the exact shoes that we admired first! Almost 1/2 off.

A happy shoe sale story. The picture is of one of the sale shoes. I took it on my phone, on the kitchen table. Now I am more ready for the next black tie affair ...

Do you hear that? I think that is the Sandman, tripping so lightly, on the tips of his toes!

S is for Stray note & a Story to remember, cautionary.

Morissey (The Smiths) is singing to me. Let me, let me get what I want this time...
Just found this... I think it was from my visit with
Marie Ricks. Ironic that it is clutter from her visit. This faded index card has been taped to my studio window for ages. NO. I never read it. Not ever. No more taping things "up."
My studio is in my sites for next clean up/out. I am desperate to get to work. Art work. No more cleaning out crap.
The note:
-Working blind.
-Some women leave a mess. They don't want to address what is behind it. Here is a story: C & Co. went to clean up/out/move a close relative... she isn't well. The latest find were +30! half eaten ice cream cones in the freezer. You know, they were being saved for "later." Later rarely comes,if ever. Who would want to eat a half eaten, re-frozen, paper covered, weeks old, soft-serve ice cream cone?
-- Music has changed to Average White Band: Play That Funky Music -- the play list is called Fun & Done.
[Is any of the following {heading} really worth keeping/organizing? Wasting space with? Just Do IT!]
- Newspaper. [I do save the funny pages(only) for a bunch of good reasons. Right now I'm cutting out funny ones to make a "funny page" for ward missionaries... never know what to write to them.]
- Mom's inbox, school papers [Sign 'em and get rid of them! If it needs to be kept put it in the right binder or file.]
- To file
- Pending
- Fit it/repairs [H: Just do it ASAP. Don't let it linger or pile up.]
- To do
- Letters [? Do people even write those anymore? Again, just do it and forget it. FAST!]
- Gifts. [H: get them, don't buy them and stash them for the future. Wrap them , with a nice card and get it there early. If you are invited last minute and don't have time for a gift, that is just too bad.]

FURIOUSLY!

U is for The U, of U.

Favorite parts of U of U tour: Nice, healthy people, BEAUTIFUL campus (No orange brick?), Encouraging advisor (we think she gets a kickback per yng woman who chooses engineering as a major), Bennion Center for Service (why isn't that @ BYU? Hmm), Parade of Mormon Missionaries--they were probably just going to eat/a conference/both, Outdoor orientation option, the Library, Red Sweatpants!

Oop! I forgot to mention the awesome University of Utah FOOTBALL team, the dorms built for the Olympics, the field-house with Spin classes (free to students), A DOG (gasp!) on Campus!, the president's office--his portrait is so wonderful!, Study Abroad/Honors options AND! The t-shirt of mini U of U logos in the shape of a peace sign.

Wednesday was S's 17th birthday! Wow oh Wow. She is so marvelous! Too marvelous for words, so glamorous, so amorous! -- I should write a song about her! :)

On Monday J and I went though all sorts of machinations to get to SLC to buy an iPod for her. (If you turn in an old iPod, at the Apple Store, even a yellow one that "suffered water damage" (Hmmm, was it the washer/dryer treatment by an 11 year old?), they give you a 10% discount on a new one.) Here is what we found:

Bummer. Closed for REMODELING?! It will reopen May 29th.

Now we are going to order one online, where we can have it engraved for free! Free! (Ha.)
Trying to find the right short quote...

2008 beach day

Isn't that about the best My Space/Facebook style pic ever?

What else would a 16 year old spell out?

This is the greatest! N's pants were soaked, falling down and his undies were going up. No matter he was delirious!

SF at its best. :) Two cars in the space of one!

Hi H,

Between Half Moon Bay and Pigeon Point Lighthouse, the San Mateo beaches we saw last week were San Gregorio State Beach, Pomponio State Beach, Pescadero State Beach, and Bean Hollow State Beach. The kids went digging, running and getting wet and sandy at Pomponio Beach. We saw the 'green flash' there. The Walgreen C.D. photos are from there and the Pigeon Point Lighthouse.
You can look up Green Flash on Wikipedia.

xxx, ooo, hugs,
Mom

Just right for her new Facebook pic.

Hey Kids! This is a Ph-one-boo-th! Phonebooth! Kinda like what Superman used... you know what I mean? No.

C is for Cool Cnitting -- why can a K be a C but not the other way around?!

http://blog.craftzine.com/KnitPicking.jpg

I just sat down at my computer... (a hard working dinosaur Apple PowerBook G4) and look what S left for me to see! Isn't that cool?

Craft magazine is one of my favorites.

A while ago I bought 2 combs, one was "travel size." It is about 4" x 5". Crazy huge. This could be a good use for it.

S, THS student of the week last week, is whopsy cool.

12 September 2008

D is for Drat.

Hmmm. S's homecoming date says he's sick. Told her with a text message. Ugh.

09 September 2008

H is for homecoming...

S has been asked to homecoming, with a cute knight teddy bear in shining armor...

What should she accessorize with?! Here are a few things that we have come across while fashion hunting.

The final result will be a blue silk dress with shiny silver flats, to better accompany her date. We hope to make a very long pearl necklace for added glam.

This is S & C.

S and C in Southern California. They went last week (?) to visit the Ostergars. S played on the beach while C went to a conference about local banks and marketing. Thanks Ostergars! They had a great, fast time! rented a Mustang to make it extra fun.
