Hey JT, in NYC,
[Mid-life crisis] I get it. Really get it.
The other day this guy insulted the needle books that I'm trying to sell on ETSY (Ugh. Long story.) Suggested that I'd sell them for, what?, $5.00 each. I'm thinking +$30.
Then a b*tchmom at ballet asked me if my GRANDDAUGHTER was in the class. I looked pretty damn hep that day too. She was sloppy & preggo but I wasn't going to be so classless as to ask her when she was due. Then, when she found out that darling M is my DAUGHTER she crassly said, "So, tell me about M. What's THAT on her head?" Young idiot.
At a party for the Chinese New Year every single conversation descended into yet another laundry list of C's heath issues. I kept excusing myself, finally just waiting in the car, big day the next day.
On Thursday, coming home from the hospital with C, I saw a huge billboard advertising Blue Oyster Cult! They are playing Wendover, NV. I am NO fan of BOC, nor Wendover, but suddenly it seemed like a great idea. Just get me outta here!
The 40's are rough. That feeling of relentlessly putting one foot in front of the other is wearing on the bones and soul. Greatness though, is wasted on the young and also not exclusively theirs. Keep writing. Keep loving. Keep moving forward.
xoxo

S is for Spin Fun.

The Valentine Gnomie... The white flag should've read, "I surrender!" Didn't really have time to create and be clever, if not brilliant. Wrapped him in an assortment of valentimey decor and called it "Done." Meanwhile I worked on a magnet board for the room.
The following is from an in-class party last week:
Treat #1: Rum Balls by Birthday Girl Vonda! A professional chocolatier.
Treat #2: Peanut Butter Bars brought in by the very trim "Peanut Butter" -- Don't ask about grams of fat, she said the next class.
Treat #3: Cream Filled Chocolate Mini-Cupcakes, brought in by Shauna, a chef.
The On-as: Donna, Vonda, Rona & Shauna!
It was an amazing, fun and HARD workout. I asked birthday girl Donna (who I've known for about 17 years, & whose son is a pal of S's) if she's had a good life so far... Rona was trying to kill us. Well, Rona made us earn the treats.
I've learned that when treats are offered at Spin, take one. Once I said, "No thank you." Only to go home and do a lot more dammage than one mini cup cake would have done. Thankfully, there aren't treats very often... and never before a trio of treats.

OH MAN. I'm going crazy. Can't Bush & Co. leave already?

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/7784197.stm
(I wish I knew how to post videos... this one is worth looking up)
Have you seen Barney's Final White House Video?! (I saw it on the BBC site.) Who is this made for? Hasn't Bush & Co. been proven dorks?! Can't he go away, quietly? Now this? I'm about throw some shoes around!
The IRAQI shoe throwing journalist is a very brave man. This is elegant, poetic: "this is a goodbye kiss from the Iraqi people, dog. (Hurl.)" It is amazing that the IRAQIS are demonstrating in the thousands in support of the journalist. Again, Bush's reply is, "So what?"
Please Obama family, get what ever dog you want but, Please don't make stiff, corny, useless videos. Not that you would...

C is for Can't Make This Up.

Recently tried to figure out if I had spelled Guiliani right. Naturally, I googled the name. ("Naturally," as if I have done it all my life.) I decided to read about him in/on Wikipedia. Why is he considered the front runner although everything I have heard about him points to a hot headed, nut job who landed in a huge and terrible leadership role at a pivotal time in our history? Also, is it true that he lived with 2 "gay guys" for a while (Yeah. It was the only furnished appt. available in NYC at the time, for the MAYOR!?); lived with other women besides his wives (3 times! Talk about polygamy.); and his children don't talk to him (Apparently it is not a good relationship. They are not mentioned on his official election site.)?
Went back to Wikipedia tonight and the entry is already quite different. This quote is not there tonight. I retrieved it from a comment I sent. Also missing are the pictures of him in drag. Yes, yes. It was all in fun, I'm sure.
This just makes me laugh! And cry... I am now praying that he will never become the nominee let alone the president!
Ferret Ban
Giuliani vetoed a bill legalizing the ownership of ferrets as pets in the city, saying that legalizing ferrets was akin to legalizing tigers. He sent a memorandum, "Talking Points Against the Legalization of Ferrets," to City Council members saying that ferrets should be banned just as pythons and lions are in the city. Councilman A. Gifford Miller said afterwards that Giuliani's "administration has gone out of its way to invent a ridiculous policy."[111] The editor of Modern Ferret magazine testified that ferrets are domesticated animals who do not live in wild and whose natural habitat is within people's homes. She argued that no case of ferrets transferring rabies to humans ever occurred, and the legalization bill would require ferrets to be vaccinated against rabies as dogs are. She later wrote that at the public hearings proposing to ban ferrets, no citizen or veterinarian ever spoke against ferrets, only representatives from the Department of Health, City Council, and Mayor Giuliani himself.[112]
David Guthartz, founder of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Ferrets, called a radio show Giuliani was hosting to complain about the citywide ban. Giuliani responded:
"There is something deranged about you. ... The excessive concern you have for ferrets is something you should examine with a therapist. ... There is something really, really very sad about you. ... This excessive concern with little weasels is a sickness. ... You should go consult a psychologist. ... Your compulsion about—your excessive concern with it is a sign that there is something wrong in your personality. ... You have a sickness, and I know it's hard for you to accept that. ... You need help."
