C is for Children. As in, Children are wonderful.

This might not make much sense to you if you don't link to the Bizarro blog... but I wrote a comment there today and need to put it someplace to remember it... my letter for today. Please read Pirraro's comments and the other comments about this cartoon... But first the brilliant cartoon:

H's comment:
Children (loving them, housing them, clothing them, educating them, playing with them, feeding them, bathing them, being loved by them) are not the problem. All the self-centered, self-righteous, self-absorbed, arrogant, egotistical, shallow adults that don't, and can't bother to figure out how to, care about anyone other than themselves and their stuff, including their (not our) planet are the problem.

Are the happily child-free happy that thousands of children were squished in China during the earthquake? Happy that the schools went first?

And then, what are the child-free going to do about the fanatics taking over our world with their heirs? Look at the Bush babies, not just Islamic militants.

Dan, you know I love your work. And I love this cartoon in particular but negative commentary about children and encouragement for the child-free, sticks me in the diaper zone.

All people should love and raise children. Children deserve the best. They are wonderful--we were too as children.

  1. ALL people should raise children? All people SHOULD raise children? Kind of fascist thought. Not everyone is blessed with children to raise, not everybody is emotionally or mentally equipped to parent. Not everybody has the social or community support to do so. Some of us can barely take care of ourselves. Maybe for some people, NOT having children is the kindest and most responsible thing. And child-free doesn't mean we don't love the children in our lives. It could just mean we are doing the best we can. Same as you.
