M is for the Mayflower.

N drew this in a fit of concentration while at dinner at a friend's house on Monday. He said he wanted to draw and he meant it. Around here we all have that urge sometimes, rarely getting the chance to act on it. I'm so glad that we had the huge paper for him and the markers out. After he finished several drawings he told us all of the details. He also told us about friendship.

Last night he played with his beloved cousins for several hours. He was soooo happy. Thanks P & M for letting him play while C figured out wheat storage. Sweetie-pie M had a great time too! :)

I love the Thanksgiving holiday. The idea, the significance, the American-ness (in the very best sense of that word) of it.

Today our menu includes: Leek stuffing made by K, mashed potatoes by N & J, turkey (shaped) carrot cake :) by C, messes made by M, place cards made by S, pies made by DFM & SRM, the turkey cooked forever by H...

i think that all told, I enjoy Thanksgiving more than Christmas. It is one of my favorite holidays, and the distinct "Americanness" of it (yes!) is what makes it so great--it's so all inclusive. Everyone is welcome at the table.

UNsent Xmas Letter "HOLIDAY HELLO!"

J finally decides what he wants to do when he grows up. He wants to be a photographer for the Daily Bugle, or just a newspaper. This explains a lot... like what those odd looking, spandex long johns with spider web pattern is doing in his closet! And I thought it was a ski racing suit!?!
K mastered mind control and is now controlling the republican party, and several monkeys, same thing. He made 200 of them skydive from an airplane yelling "Vote for the chosen one!" in pig latin, in the shape of an elephant, over the Grand Canyon, at 7:00 with a recording of live canaries singing the Star Spangled Banner in B sharp.
H contemplates what country she would move to if she could no longer live and love in America. Hmmm. Our recent ancestors did this... heavy thoughts.
C, not content, not satisfied, with a riding lawn mower decided that he wanted more. More power, more capability, more wanton destruction. So he watched the men working on the new trail and researched different makes and models and went out and got him an Articulated Hauler. A Volvo Articulated Hauler. Pretty sweet.
C took a new JOB! For the last long while the travel 50% of the year has been getting on the family's collective nerves. The Sky-Miles to the Caribbean and the week-end jaunts to visit Vancouver aside... it was just time. So he said yes when Dr. Attache asked him to join the team of alligator researchers at the U of U. It is an amazing job. Good benefits. Great work environment. Really! He is in the trenches with over 100 alligators a day. Hmmm, perhaps you do the same at your job... anyway, his favorite task is attaching the heart rate monitor to the cheery guys and setting 'em up on the treadmills. They seem to prefer to work out to heavy metal, none of the early jazz stuff he brought in at first. The kids love visiting him at work. And, aside from the lunch mishap that ended at the emergency room, K will still be able to play the cello!
While SCUBA diving in the San Francisco bay, K discovered a new species of cuttlefish that were eating the base of not only the Bay Bridge, but the Golden Gate Bridge too! Mayor Newsom gave him the key to the City for saving the two landmarks and so many peoples' lives.
S is working hard at UVU's culinary incongruent enrollment. She is fast becoming a Parfait officionado. She wants to open a chain of Parfait Parlors. Do you know anyone that doesn't like Parfait? (SO much lighter than those rice pudding places!)
J, missing his favortite gelato in Roma, has developed a brand of Pokelato. Catch it if you can ...
J, while still in grammar school, has been signed to Arista Records and is playing poké-punk violin. He is on tour in Japan. His (un)cuteness draws huge crowds. Somehow he is keeping his cool, probably because he is in Pokemon Eden, the Genesis for all things Pokemon, which is also the name of his band.
S made it out of "advisory" during lunch. She is heading up a long-board, all girl glee club. They sing and board all over the metropolis' limits.
M, intreagued by all things big-girl, teen-ager & grow'd-up decides to get a dose of "permanent makeup" and calls about getting her beautiful ballerina pink lips tattooed. C put an end to that.
N decides he can do one better than Lio in the funny pages and sucessfully builds a Lunar Space Module in our basement. He desides it needs colorful heat resistant tiles (reentry etc.) so fires up some kelly green ones in H's kiln.
K changes his name to Xavier Kronos Almighty.
